The Board of Education prohibits the organization of school-sponsored fraternities, sororities or secret organizations wherein membership is determined by members themselves rather than on the basis of free choice. The Board considers those organizations or memberships in those organizations detrimental to the good conduct and discipline of the school. Interference with the instructional program of the Farmington R-7 School District by those groups will not be condoned, and no organizational activities are permitted under the sponsorship of the school district or its personnel.

By this policy, the Board of Education prohibits the existence of gangs and gang-like activities. As used herein, the phrase “gang-like activity” shall mean any conduct engaged in by a student 1) on behalf of any gang; 2) to perpetuate the existence of any gang; 3) to effect the common purpose and design of any gang; 4) to represent a gang affiliation, loyalty or membership in any way while on school grounds or while attending a school function; or 5) to perpetuate the perception of being in a gang. These activities include recruiting students for membership in any gang and threatening or intimidating other students or employees to commit acts or omissions against his/her will in furtherance of the common purpose and design of any gang. For purposes of district policy, the term “gang” shall be defined as any ongoing organization, association or group of three (3) or more persons, whether formal or informal, having as one of its primary activities the commission of a criminal act, which has a common name or common identifying sign or symbol, whose members individually or collectively engage in or have engaged in a pattern of gang activity.
