Noncertificated support staff members are participants in the Public Education Employee Retirement
System (PEERS) of the State of Missouri as allowed by law. A retired employee, as well as his or
her dependents, surviving spouse and children, shall be allowed to remain or become members in
non-insurance health benefit programs, self-funded plans and insured plans by qualifying for the
coverage in the manner prescribed by law under the provisions of such plan and paying the premiums
of said plans.
Persons engaged by the district as independent contractors, including consultants, are not by virtue
of such engagement considered employees of the district for purposes of membership or contribution
to the Public School Retirement System or PEERS.
Sick Leave Reimbursement
An employee electing retirement as of July 1 of the school year for which retirement would be
effective and who retires under provisions of the Public School Retirement System of Missouri, with
at least five (5) years of service in the Jefferson City School District, will be paid for one-fourth (¼)
of his or her accrued sick leave days, not to exceed 20 days, on a current per-diem basis.
Additionally, an employee who elects to retire with at least five (5) years of service in the Jefferson
City School District and who has accumulated over 80 days of sick leave will be paid for one-fourth
(¼) of his/her per diem pay not to exceed the substitute teacher pay rate for up to 40 additional days
over those spelled out above (i.e., the difference between 80 days and 120 days).

In the event of a discrepancy between an administrative procedure and a Board policy, the Board
policy will take precedence.
