The Board of Education recognizes that academic failure by students can be directly associated with
personal, social, emotional or behavioral problems beyond the traditional jurisdiction of the regular
classroom. Therefore, the Board is committed to working in conjunction with a committee of faculty
members, administrators and community members to implement a program which will serve to
increase self-esteem, pride and academic excellence in potential at-risk students. With the
understanding that there is no single solution to the at-risk problem, the district's program will be
implemented through a series of activities within the classroom, small group counseling, individual
counseling, and awareness and prevention efforts.
