Qualifications
All teachers under contract shall be certificated for their particular teaching duties and shall meet
the qualifications as prescribed by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Definitions
The term "professional staff" will be used to designate those employees who possess teaching or
administrative certificates issued by state educational authorities or degrees from accredited
institutions of higher learning in order to maintain their status with the district.
A. The following definitions will apply to professional staff members:
Full-Time Personnel -- Employees whose regular assignment requires them to work not
less than 30 hours/week for not less than six (6) hours per day during the period of the
employee's work year, excluding vacation, leave and holidays.
Temporary Personnel -- Employees who accept assignment(s) for a predetermined period
of time will not be provided Board-paid benefits. This stipulation shall be included in the
posting notices. The length of service for assignment may be based on:
1. Time needed to complete a specified task;
2. A specific date set for termination of an assignment;
3. The return of a full-time or part-time employee from an absence.
B. Employees whose regular assignment requires them to work not less than 30 hours/week
for not less than four (4) hours per day during the period of the employee's work year,
excluding vacation, leave and holidays, are eligible to receive paid health, dental and life
insurance, and vacation.
The annuity option contained in policy GCBC is available only for full-time certificated
employees.
C. The Board instructs the superintendent to maintain a comprehensive and up-to-date set of
job descriptions of all positions in the school system. Job descriptions are to be kept in a
separate manual dedicated to that purpose and shall be available in the office of the
superintendent during regular business hours.
Regulations
Professional employees shall be assigned to teach within the limits of their teaching certificate and
major and/or minor fields of study. Professional employees who have been assigned to teach in
a subject area within the scope of their minor field of specialization may request assignment in
their major field of specialization, and will be given extra consideration when competing with
persons from outside the district.
