PROGRAMS FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES

(Evaluation Criteria for District and Independent Evaluations)

The parents of a student with a disability may obtain an independent evaluation of the student at public expense, subject to the same qualifications the St. Charles R-VI School District uses when it initiates an evaluation, if the parent disagrees with the district’s evaluation of the student.

If a parent requests an independent educational evaluation at public expense, the district must either (1) initiate a due process hearing to demonstrate that its evaluation is appropriate or (2) ensure that an independent evaluation, within the following criteria, is provided. The district will provide all parents a listing of the following evaluator qualifications at their request.

As a condition for payment, all evaluators must agree in writing to release their assessment information and results to the district prior to receipt of payment for services.

The following is a listing of the qualifications and criteria required for district and independent evaluations. If a student has unique circumstances that justify an evaluation that does not meet the following criteria, the district may grant exceptions.
